What is a mediation?

A mediation is a meeting that takes place prior to trial and almost always avoids trial. The parties appear with their lawyers or without them, before an impartial mediator. The role of the mediator is to try to get the parties to reach a settlement. If the parties do not reach a settlement agreement, then the case moves to trial.
